We’ve got quite a few things planned. Lots of this isn’t fully fleshed out so it may change as we begin building through everything.
The majority of the following goals, features and projects have been lying dormant over the years as we’ve slowly written down and accumulated ideas which were too much work or didn’t fit into our vision of Altruism at the time. Recently some dear and close friends announced some projects they were working on. As I’m sure any developers or creators can understand, sometimes things trigger ideas in your head and once they start flowing, you can’t get rid of them. In hindsight I think it’s obvious that we’ve been a community more than any particular “server”, and since we have two servers that we plan to keep open side-by-side I think it’s a good idea that we embrace the community aspect of what we do even more.
In our advertising we’ll be portraying ourselves as an RF community, RF Altruism, rather than RF Altruism Crimson or just RF Altruism’s main server. We’ll keep the website super simple and make it obvious that our goal is to offer two completely different experiences both on the founding of our core philosophy, the game shouldn’t require any money to be able to be the top ranked player.
To ensure the viability of both servers, the soon to be renamed main server will receive more custom development to drive it further and further apart from Crimson, which we hope provides a long and classic experience to anyone playing on it. Players on Crimson who have played on an official server previously will hopefully have to do minimal or no reading about Crimson to know exactly what to do and how to do it best. It will continue to have some fixes, balances and improvisations when we see fit.
For the community as a whole there are a few things we want to do better and a few things we want to start doing
- Deliver patch notes, events, announcements and news to all our social media platforms and our website consistently and regularly. Previously we had to make each of those posts 1 by 1 manually. We hope to have a way to post once and it’ll go to all the relevant places.
- Advertising: the only place we know of is facebook groups or vote sites. Can’t really do any paid advertisements since we’re a private server…
- Weekly AMA/FAQ or whatever from the community. We’ll record and upload these weekly and begin to build an archive. The content doesn’t need to be specific to Altruism. General RF stuff will be nice to cover as well.
- Media page on the website where players can post links to images or videos they’ve created to build a media gallery onto the website more easily. This will create more community content and help to build the community as well.
- We’ll setup a system that allows players to create their own news or posts which we may or may not approve. Things like tutorials, tips, etc.
- An advancements page that shows off some of the stuff we’re proud of. Like the trapper rework or the automatic spectating bot we used during an event weekend on our twitch stream.
- Now that we’ve been doing this for over 3 years and even looking at current official servers, it’s become more and more obvious that the game has no new content or mechanics. Everyone knows the optimal way to do bd’s, exp, or what to do in every scenario. With the soon to be renamed main server we’ll be breaking mold and working toward creating new and unexpected RF experiences. Battles may be won differently, strategies may change, but we just hope it keeps things fun, interesting, and different.
- Traps that don’t deal damage but net a player that sets them off, like a trap should
- Catapults which deal “concussive blows”. Each shot will also apply a debuff that lasts 2 seconds which slows the target and lowers their defense. This will reward a catapult for focusing on a single target rather than changing frequently, it will also reward followup shots, so that we can balance the first shot at a different rate than followup shots.
- These were just 2 examples of new ideas and we have literally 50+ some are more rediculous than others but we just wanted to give a hint of new and unique things to come. Some will be simple changes that change the way things work, some will be more complex, but hopefully they all will change the strategy of pvp, the optimal skill chain orders, and more all for the better.
We love this game and it’s players. What we want more than anything is to provide a place for players to be able to play the game and enjoy it. To be able to take breaks if their life circumstances require it and to be around when they’re ready to come back. We’ve had the opportunity to give fun to countless players over the years and what we hope most is that even players that don’t play with us currently, look back on their time with our community fondly and know that whether they agreed with our goals, choices and vision for our servers or players, that we did it with integrity, honesty and as much transparency as possible given the circumstances
Thanks for your time,
Altruism
